My first blog post

Seeing as this is my first blog post, I thought I’d introduce myself and explain why I decided to start writing a blog.

So, first things first… In the words of Nikki Grahame (from Big Brother season 7 – the only one I ever watched) “WHO IS SHE?”

Well, my name is Nicole, I’m 33, married and I live in Peterborough, UK with my husband of 7 years, Tom, and our small pig-dog Sophie.

Before living in Peterborough, I’ve lived in Istanbul, Bradford and South Africa!

Other facts:

  • I work for a well-known price comparison website during the day and I spend most of my spare time with the aforementioned husband and dog.
  • We particularly enjoy a good TV box set (current fav is Nashville) but if the husband isn’t watching I love Madame Secretary and period dramas like Downton Abbey and Victoria. But I have managed to convince him to watch The Crown with me which he got hooked on!
  • I have a serious case of wanderlust that my (willing) husband gets dragged along with!
  • I love a good weepy – movie, book or tv advert, I’m not fussy! I even cried watching Strictly this weekend! Total wuss…

I think that’s enough with the revelations for my first post. There’s plenty of time for us to get to know each other more 🙂

And next up, why am I writing this blog. Well, what I didn’t mention above is that when I’m not hanging out with Tom and Sophie, I love to DO. What do I mean by “do”?… Bake, make and explore.

Starting with Explore: I already mentioned my wanderlust (which by the way I think is a fantastic word) and I would go as far as saying I’m addicted to visiting new places. Unfortunately I don’t have the bulging bank account to support my habit as well as I’d like but in the last 18 months I have been lucky enough to visit Crete, Santorini, Kefalonia (I’m in love with Greece), Istanbul (twice) and Rome.  I’ve also got a trip to San Francisco with a one night layover in Vancouver coming up in January which I’m currently accepting tips and recommendations for!

Make: I love to learn new things and recently I’ve been brushing up on my crafting skills may that be decorating, candle making, lettering, floristry or knitting – I’ll take a workshop on anything creative! I’ll even teach myself if there’s a good tutorial – yay for YouTube!

Bake: I don’t think this needs much explanation but in the words of Taylor I love to “Bake it off, bake it off”! Ok, so I know that’s not really what she sings but I like to imagine it’s my song when I’m rustling something delightful up in the kitchen. It’s that or Sugar by Maroon 5 🙂  Whether it’s something traditional like a Vicky Sponge or banana bread or something more technical like a macaron or a brioche, I really enjoy baking and find it a great way to relax after a busy day at work.

So I’ll get to the point now… The reason I’m writing this blog is because I wanted a way to document all the creative things I do and amazing places I visit. I was going to start writing a diary but then I thought how would I attach photos and carrying a pad around would only weigh down my already heavy handbag! So a digital diary aka a blog seemed like the ideal solution. So here we are!

Kind of linking to all three of these things, is my love of photography, be that with my Canon DSLR, iPhone or our GoPro. I’m definitely in the amateur camp but I love to record our lives and hope that this blog will encourage me to up my snapping game.

I do hope I end up with a reader or two that actually likes what I’m rambling on about but if you do happen to come across my blog and think it’s utter crap, then please don’t tell me. Just click that cross at the top of your screen and move along. No negativity here, thank you! So happy reading! I’ve got lots of fun things planned to write about and look forward to sharing them all with you.

P.S. I do have something in common with the Big Brother contestant, we are both nicknamed Princess Nicky… if you keep reading my blog I’m sure the reasons for that will make themselves apparent at some point!
